Alzheimer's Australia Dementia Research Foundation offers a range of research grants for students and early career dementia researchers. 


2014 Dementia Grants Program

The 2014 Dementia Grants Program includes 29 grants valued at over $2.6 million. These grants will be advertised in two rounds, as follows:

Round Two (OPEN from Monday 1 September - Friday 17 October 2014)

  • 4X Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation Half-Funded Postgraduate Scholarships - $15,000 per year for three years (matched by the recipient's Institution) with $2,500 per year for research related expenses 

One of these scholarships will be offered on applicant working on one of the three research priority areas identified by members of the Alzheimer’s Australia Consumer Dementia Research Network (CDRN):

  1. Dementia in acute care.
  2. Understanding the lived experience of dementia and the impact of cognitive and related functional declines of people with dementia and family carers.
  3. People with dementia living alone.

Round One (open from Wednesday 19 February - Friday 4 April, 2014 - CLOSED)

  • 1X Resthaven Inc Dementia Research Project Grant - $150,000 for two years 
  • 9X Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation Project Grants - $50,000 for one year
  • 1X Hazel Hawke Alzheimer’s Research and Care Fund Project Grant - $50,000 for one year
  • 4X Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation - Vic Project Grants - $50,000 for one year
  • 5X Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships - $110, 000 per year for two years
  • 4X Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation Half-Funded Postdoctoral Fellowships - $55,000 per year for two years (matched by the recipient's Institution)
  • 1 X Rosemary Foundation Travel Fellowship - $15,000 for international professional development​

2014 Partnership Engagement Grants 

Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation (AADRF) Partnership Engagement Grants provide a mechanism by which researchers can approach Alzheimer’s Australia with requests to contribute financially and/or in-kind to partnership grant applications to other funding agencies (e.g. NHMRC Partnerships for Better Health Projects (Partnership Projects) and ARC Linkage Projects).

There will be up to $100,000 available per annum for funding requests. In-kind requests will also be considered. 

Requests for support will be subject to a four stage assessment process comprising:

1) Expressions of Interest:  Alzheimer’s Australia will assess and shortlist EOIs as they are received;
2) Detailed Proposal:  Applicants shortlisted at stage one will be asked to provide detailed project proposals which will be assessed by members of the AADRF Scientific Panel and Alzheimer’s Australia;
3) Ranking and Recommendation:  Proposals shortlisted at stage two will be ranked by members of the Consumer Dementia Research Network (CDRN);
4) Final Decision:  The AADRF Board will make final decisions on whether or not to support each proposal, based on recommendations from the CDRN.

Round 2 Partnership Engagement Grants dates:

  • Last date for EOIs to be considered: 29 August, 2014
  • Detailed proposals requested of shortlisted applicants: 3 September, 2014
  • Detailed proposals due: 10 October, 2014
  • Assessments completed, and notification of outcomes: 14 November, 2014
